Class of antibiotic> nitroimidazole. This drug inhibits bacterial nucleic acid synthesis, resulting in bacterial cell death, used against protozoa such as Trichomonas vaginalis, amebiasis, and giardiasis. Metronidazole is extremely effective against anaerobic bacterial infections and is also used to treat Crohn’s disease, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and rosacea. (antibiotic, amebicide, and antiprotozoal).
Dose: 500mg IV up to three times per day.
Administration: This comes as a pre-mixed bag, given via gravity drip.
